Devastating News on UPS Incident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The tally of victims resulting from the UPS cargo plane which ignited and plummeted has now reached 13, according to recent announcements.

Mayor's Remarks

While en route to the Union’s vigil, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the plane incident,” stated the city mayor in a social media post. “My thoughts are with the relatives, friends and co-workers of all who were killed in this recent disaster. We will overcome this together.”

Casualties Identified

An announcement from the carrier identified the flight crew on board the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts reach out to all employee who has been touched and all in our community community – assisting you and guaranteeing you get the attention and resources you need is our focus,” the organization’s communication read.

Investigation Findings

Government officials announced that the freight aircraft’s left wing caught fire and an motor fell off just after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, causing the jet to fall and erupt into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is examining the aircraft’s service record, that was in Texas for repairs several weeks ahead of the accident.

Aircraft data showed the plane was on the ground in the Texas city from early September to last week.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in San Antonio,” remarked an investigator on Thursday, without a specific period. “We will examine all elements of service that was done, including the San Antonio time, straight to the day of the flight.”

Retrieval of Key Evidence

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the power plant was located on the airfield.

The devices – referred to as black boxes – were designed to withstand crash impacts and extreme fire from blazes, and they appeared to be intact when found amid the wreckage. Authorities plan on reviewing data from the recorders.

Aircraft’s concluding recorded information displayed an altitude of 475 ft and a speed of 210 miles per hour before the accident.

Maintenance Background

Based on aviation authority documents dated last month, a fissure on a structural piece in the fuel container required maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which indicated it supplies structural repairs for the carrier’s aircraft and runs a repair facility in Texas, refused to provide remarks, but said it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities reached out it.

Services Restart

At the same time, the facility operations resumed Wednesday night with its express also known as nighttime process, spokesperson the company official said. The three landing strips at the aviation hub were additionally reopened.

The sorting center in Louisville is the organization’s largest. The center employs over twenty thousand workers in the region, manages 300 trips each day and processes over 400,000 items an hour.

Public Reaction

A candlelight vigil was held on the night of that date by the area Teamsters Union, which supports workers at the aviation hub, the organization’s biggest air cargo hub.

The union chapter, which represents UPS workers, began the vigil with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the estimated hour of the incident before.

“This event was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the official spoke to the group of two hundred. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
