PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
